EPISODE BREAKDOWN: On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin reports on a congressional amendment to the 2014 Defense Appropriations Bill that would have brought an end to the NSA’s blanket gathering of phone records. Abby then talks to Tyson Slocum, director of Public Citizen’s energy program, about the dangerous side effects of fracking, and whether or not supporters of the practice are right about hydraulic fracturing being a good alternative to dirty energy. Abby then remarks on a letter written by the grandfather of Abdurrahman al Awlaki, a 16 year old US citizen who was killed by a US drone strike in Yemen in 2011, which calls for accountability from the US government for murdering his grandson. Abby then talks to RT Correspondent Meghan Lopez, about the latest version of Immigration reform legislation being nicknamed the ‘border surge’, and what the many misconceptions that are propagated about the issue in the US. BTS wraps up the show with a look at UK government’s practice of revoking citizenship of individuals deemed to be ‘persons of interest’, citing two cases where subjects were stripped of citizenship and assassinated by US drones.
